Welcome to Marketing and Entrepreneurship at Career Preparation Center!
Hello, I am Dawn Worde and I am the Marketing and Entrepreneurship Instructor at CPC. I spent 24+ years in business, specifically sales, account management, event planning and brand management before re-careering into teaching. My background has spanned a variety of industries from radio to industrial supply chain management; but has mainly focused on automotive (Ford), the heavy-duty market (John Deere, Navistar), and industrial market. I have had the privilege of being on committees that plan and implement events like Woodward Dream Cruise, Tall Ships, Ford Racing events, Grand Prix, North American International Auto Show, Jets v. Funny Car, as well as many philanthropic and community outreach programs all over the United States.
This diverse experience has provided me with an insight of what marketing truly is--an integral part of business that spans any industry. We are the proverbial "jack of all trades" or industries if you will! We will explore all that marketing currently is and where the trends are going. We will also try our hand at content creation for our student run business (the school store), The Hive. We are adding social media to our skillset as it is now an industry standard and will proudly display our best work in an online digital portfolio's we will be compiling all year.
The classroom environment is like a business environment; there is freedom of choice and even a coffee station. I like a mix of first- and second-year students in my classes; I feel this approach gives students an opportunity to collaborate, learn from each other and also empowers second year students to take on a managerial role. Many times, I see first year students rise to the occasion! This approach also accommodates a variety of learning styles, promotes decision making and self-reflection, for students to consume the material rather than recite it. We embrace a growth mindset - the process of learning and self-reflection - where mistakes are okay and part of being human and part of the learning process.
I have officially been teaching since 2005 and have been with WCS since 2010. I have taught Accounting, Business, Microsoft, Integrated Tech, Web Design, Computer Programming (CIS), and Cybersecurity, among others. I have a Bachelor's in Business Administration with a major in Management and Operations and a minor in Computer Information Systems. I earned a Master’s in Secondary Education from University of Phoenix and have since taken several classes related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at Saginaw Valley State University. I am a mom of 3 awesome big kids, grandmother of 8 "awesomer" grandkids, and married since '87 to the cute boy I met right before I graduated high school.
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this year and excited about what this school year will bring!
